Brian’s picks

1) If you winced a bit as I did at the portrayal of an unhinged Mary Todd Lincoln in the 2012 blockbuster, “Lincoln,” then MaryAnne Mathews’ one-act, one woman drama on the presidential spouse offers redemption as rich as the historical character’s history. The warm presentation of “Mrs. President” is set in Lincoln’s later years as she reminisces about her birth and formative years in Lexington, Ky., time in the White House and other events. Shows will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28 at The Harlequin Theatre inside Columbus’ FairOaks Mall, with tickets priced at $15 in advance at the mall and at Viewpoint Books.

2) Having multiple e-books at my fingertips is awesome. But I like to feel and smell my books besides reading them, and scribble in the margins in my own handwriting. I say this to highlight the Zonta Used Book Sale, 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Columbus’ FairOaks Mall in the former Deb store. Go ahead. Bury your nose and unearth a whole new world.
