Goodwill finalizes deal for westside store

Goodwill has finalized its purchase of property on the west side of Columbus that will house a new retail store and donation center.

Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana Inc. bought the empty lot at the northeast corner of Carr Hill Road and Merchants Mile just south of Centra Credit Union in front of Walmart. It paid Menards Inc. $1.1 million for the property in a Feb. 19 sale.

The national retailer, which has more than 50 locations in central Indiana, plans to build a 15,600-square-foot store and donation center on the site.

Goodwill received permission from the city’s plan commission in December for its site plans and to start construction.
