First United Methodist Smorgasbord set April 23-24

Feeding more than 1,100 people at the First United Methodist Church Smorgasbord is quite a mission, given that it requires 2,270 meatballs, 475 pounds of chicken and 90 pounds of noodles, among plenty of other ingredients.

But the real mission of the event, including the 50th annual version from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 23 and 24 at the church, 618 Eighth St. in Columbus, is supporting the work of the gospel. That ranges from local outreach to worldwide efforts. Last year, more than $12,000 went to the cause, according to organizers.

The event includes entertainment from Nashville’s Melchior Marionettes. Plus, country store items will be available for purchase.

Tickets are available now through the church office at 812-372-2851 or at the door. Adults tickets are $14, those for children 4 years old to 10 are $6, and tickets for children 3 years old and younger are free if purchased at the door.

Also, meals can be delivered to homes in Columbus if diners call by 3 p.m. the day before they want the meal to be delivered.
