Mary Claire King returns for April 25 encore

If you missed Columbus native Mary Claire King’s sold-out Cabaret at The Commons show in January, take heart. Tickets remain for the vocalist’s April 25 “Best of Broadway” performance with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic at Judson Erne Auditorium, 1400 25th St.

If you’re too new to remember King while she impressed people locally as a belting, big-voiced high-schooler just a few years ago, you might check Facebook for gushing comments from other homegrown vocalists who have seen their share of considerable national success. Several such singers and voice teachers already are advising that King’s 10-month Broadway run in “Catch Me If You Can” serves only as a harbinger of great things to come for her in the big city.

Philharmonic Music Director David Bowden is among those, and said so in a note to her after her January performance.

The 25-year-old King is as funny as she is talented, joking before her January appearance about her considerable yodeling abilities.
