Police: Man attacked in market lot

Staff Reports

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies are investigating a reported robbery in the parking lot of Bush Market.

Sheriff deputies said a 47-year-old Columbus man was driving on East 25th Street near the market at about 8:20 p.m. Friday when he saw what he thought was a disabled vehicle in the parking lot of the market.

When the man stopped his vehicle and unlocked his door preparing to try to help, a subject described as a male about 18 to 22 years old opened the door and tried to forcibly remove the Columbus man from his vehicle.

The 47-year-old received a cut on his leg when he was dragged out of his vehicle, sheriff deputies said. He told deputies the younger man robbed him and left the scene eastbound on State Road 46 accompanied by a female age 15 to 17 years old.

The Columbus man drove himself to Columbus Regional Hospital where police were notified, deputies said.

Anyone with information on the suspects or who saw the vehicles in the market parking lot are asked to call sheriff’s detective Kevin Abner at 812-565-5928.
