Wilma Joyce Hanner Sovern, 74, of Columbus, died at 1:40 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Jackson County, Wilma was the daughter of Woodrow and Marjorie Lutes Hanner. She enjoyed gardening and canning her harvests, serving as a bus monitor for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, and being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of 25th Street Church of Christ.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus, with Jim Atkins officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Wilma is survived by her husband, Dale Sovern, who she married in December of 1957 in Lawrence County; son, Mark Sovern of Columbus; and daughters, Anita (Robert) Barker and Dana (Dan) Barlow, both of Columbus. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Tyler Barker of Tennessee and Lindsey Sovern of Columbus; a great-grandson, Keaton Littlejohn of Columbus; three brothers; and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
