The price of gasoline hit another record high in Columbus at $2.39 for a gallon of regular. The state average was $2.19 according to AAA.

1990

Columbus’ two leading private-sector employers rose in the rankings of industrial businesses by Fortune magazine. Based on 1989 sales, Cummins Inc. moved up for the second straight year, from 135th to 132nd. Arvin Industries rebounded from 271st place to 251st.

1965

County Treasurer Virgil D. Scheidt, the only Republican elected in the fall of 1964 in the face of a general “Johnson Democratic landslide,” was elected Bartholomew County Republican Party chairman.
