Brian’s picks (for inside Go April 16)

1) My favorite aunt sadly was the victim of a caregiver’s illegal meddling into her finances a couple of years ago. And because we sometimes spotlight education as much as entertainment in this space, thank goodness for the local Thrive Alliance’s free presentation of a documentary, “Be Wise, Be Aware: Prevent Elder Financial Abuse,” at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Columbus’ YES Cinema, Fourth and Jackson streets.

2) Look, I’m slightly biased to hawk the Spring Writers Conference, which includes colleague and nonfiction author Paul Hoffman. But in the past few years, I have met quite a number of area residents with a secret book project in their desk drawer, with hopes that they someday can polish the work and market it right past a flurry of rejection slips. Cost for the event beginning at 10 a.m. April 25 is $25 for person. The event includes workshops ranging from researching nonfiction to breathing life into fictional characters.
