Carl N. “Carty” Coleman, 88, of Sumpter Trail, died at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Carl was born August 14, 1926, in Columbus, the son of Herschel A. and Mayme A. Thornton Coleman. He married Betty J. Coleman August 30, 1980.

Carl was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Union Church. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1944 and shortly after enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Signalman aboard the U.S.S. Cavallaro. He was previously employed at Engelking Patterns and retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1997.

Carl enjoyed playing and watching golf, watching basketball, especially the Indiana Pacers, as well as attending family gatherings.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2015, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Metz officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Christian Union Church through the funeral home.

Survivors include his daughter, Colleen A. Coleman of Columbus; stepchildren, Roger E. Coleman and Janice J. (Dave) Fisher, both of Columbus, and their families, Ryan (Tara) Fisher, Gavin (Amanda) Fisher, Reagan, Lennon, Britain, Kennedy, and Carolina; and nieces and nephews, Jane (Dave) Sutton, Jim (Nora) Coleman, John (Lynn) Coleman, Jill (Randy) Scheidt, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his spouse, Betty J. Coleman, on August 6, 2013; his parents, Herschel and Mayme A. Thornton Coleman; and brothers, Melvin and Gene Coleman.
