Panthers blank Bull Dogs

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North ran into one of the state’s top teams Wednesday and suffered a 5-0 loss at second-ranked North Central.

The No. 18 Bull Dogs (6-3) were competitive at No. 1 singles, where Aubrey Smith fell 7-5, 6-2. Paige Littrell lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Rosemary Yonushonis fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Meagan Olibo and Hannah Shoemaker lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Brooke Richardson and Tijaing Zhao fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Olympians fall to Pirates

GREENSBURG — Columbus East struggled to find momentum in a 5-0 loss at Greensburg.

Adycin Rager had the closest match for the Olympians (0-8), falling 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. AJ Pollert lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Kate Fox fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Paige Webb and Carol Travis lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Megan Newton and Lauren Graham fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Pioneers edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County won two matches, but couldn’t garner a third point in a 3-2 loss to Providence.

Sarah Kurdziel won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Elizabeth Huls prevailed 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singled. Mary Kate McCann fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Corina Greiner and Ashley Pugh lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles and Sarah Barrick and Jacey Ferguson fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Braves bounce Lancers

WHITELAND — Lillie Parmer pulled out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, but that was the only victory for Edinburgh in a 4-1 loss at Whiteland in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

Vanessa Hoskins fell 4-6, 6-4, (11-9) at No. 1 singles, and Molly Bowker lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (2-2). Baleigh Downton and Allie Schooler fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Ashlyn Streeval and Miranda Burton lost 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles down Patriots

SPENCER — Brown County overcame an early 1-0 deficit to post a 4-1 Western Indiana Conference win at Owen Valley.

Cheyenne Ellis went 3 for 4 with two doubles for the Eagles (3-5, 1-0). Rachel Smith went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Vicky Kelp went 2 for 4.

Eagles fall in 8

SPENCER — Owen Valley pushed across a run in the eighth inning to hand Brown County a 4-3 WIC loss.

Tanner Hamm had a home run for the Eagles.

Panthers blank Lancers

EDINBURGH — Class 2A No. 1 Knightstown scored five times in the first and nine more in the third to claim at 14-0, five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Edinburgh.

The Panthers (6-0, 4-0) limited the Lancers (3-7, 1-2) to three hits. Kevin Johnson had a double for Edinburgh.

BOYS GOLF

Trojans top Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur put four golfers in the 40s, but fell to East Central 178-187 at Wyaloosing Creek.

Nick Schwering led the Cougars with a 44. Cory Hastings and Seth Niese each shot 47, while Brayden Helms carded a 49, Kyle Carder added a 51 and Jacob Johnson had a 54.

TRACK AND FIELD

SD boys, Trinity girls win

OSGOOD — South Decatur’s boys and Trinity Lutheran’s girls won quad meets Tuesday at Jac-Cen-Del.

The South Decatur boys scored 84 points to 63 for Oldenburg Academy, 54 for Trinity and 27 for Jac-Cen-Del. Trinity’s girls scored 74 points to 55 for Jac-Cen-Del, 52 for Oldenburg and 45 for South Decatur.

Damon Allen won the discus (118 feet, 4 inches) and 100 meters (12.3 seconds) to lead the South Decatur boys. Tristan Ralph took the high jump (6-0), Sam Studler captured the 400 (55.1) and South Decatur won the 4×100 (48.0) and 4×400 (3:48) relays.

Trinity’s Tommy Davis won the shot put (39-4), and Seth Patterson took the 110 hurdles (18.5).

For the Trinity girls, Hailley Peters won the high jump (4-8) and long jump (15-2½), and Angi Bergstedt took the 100 (13.7) and 200 (28.0). Trinity also captured the 4×100 relay (55.0).

BOYS LACROSSE

North falls to Panthers

Columbus North fell to 2-5 with an 11-8 loss to Bloomington South.

Clay Johnson led North with three goals, while Wyatt Barkes added two, and Lenny Cuzato, Whit Jerman and Sawyer Lewis all had one. Tyler Wang had the only assist.

Dawson Smith recorded seven saves.
