The area escaped serious weather-related accidents, fire or injuries when heavy rain and lightning pounded the county, toppling trees, flooding roads and tearing power lines from their poles.


Area farmers were “twiddling their thumbs” after recent rainfall and the probability of more, kept fields too soggy to work.


Camp Atterbury was listed by state officials as one of three places that might qualify as the site for a planned $280,000,000 atomic energy facility they sought to have located in Indiana.
