Bull Dogs blank Braves to close regular season

TERRE HAUTE — The Columbus North girls tennis team wrapped up the regular season Monday with a 5-0 shutout at Terre Haute South.

Aubrey Smith rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Hanna Gore at No. 1 singles for the 16th-ranked Bull Dogs (16-7). Paige Littrell downed Courtney Sheets 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Rosemary Yonushonis beat Corrin Scamcord 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

North’s Meagan Olibo and Madelyn Sanders downed Sofia Saylor and Pam Dorman 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Brooke Richardson and Yijiang Zhao beat Hunter Duncan and Erin Friedrick 7-5, 4-6, (10-8) at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers down Trojans

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won four matches in straight sets to claim a 4-1 win against East Central.

Avis McGovern won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Kristen Nottingham prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Rebecca Driver posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (6-14). Cassie Leach and Hailee Harmon won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Elaine Lykins and Amy Gasper fell 2-6, 1-6 at No. 1 double.

Eagles edge Braves

NASHVILLE — Brown County pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles to claim a 3-2 victory against Indian Creek.

Ashley Pugh downed Lacie Tekulve 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and Sarah Kurdziel and Hallee Miller beat Baylee Wilson and Katie Huter 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles. Corina Greiner and Jacey Ferguson topped Raven Danz and Makayla Russell 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County’s Mary Kate McCann fell to Candace Danz 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Elisabeth Huls lost to Lacie Tekulve 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Spartans blank Cougars

SHELBYVILLE — Southwestern (Shelby) won all five matches in straight sets in handing Trinity Lutheran a 5-0 loss.

Aurora Willman fell to Alexa Schofner 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Courtney Barker lost to Katelyn Clark 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Kendyll Austin fell to Brenna Jackson 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Cougars (1-12). Allison Hackman and Sydney Stuckwisch lost to Casey Tennell and Carly McNeely 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Shelby Nierman and Maddie Lucas fell to Morgan Brockman and Courtney Raymer 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Trinity tops Milan

SEYMOUR — Kaitlyn Wright threw a six-hitter as Trinity Lutheran edged Milan 2-1.

Natalie Plofkin had two doubles for the Cougars (13-7).

BOYS GOLF

Panthers edge Cougars

Bailey Wilder won medalist honors with a 1-over-par 36 to lead Jennings County to a 156-157 win against Trinity Lutheran at St. Anne’s.

Ian Donnell carded a 39 for the Panthers. Lane Sawyer added a 40, while Jake Simmons shot 41, Hunter Sporleder had a 42 and Austin Roscoe and Garrett Day each shot 45.

Parker Criswell led the Cougars with a 37. Skylar Stahl carded a 39, while Drew Royalty added a 40, Chad Stuckwisch shot 41, Cory Stuckwisch had a 46, Jonathan Keith carded a 47 and Clayton Pottschmidt had a 48.
