Brian’s picks

1) On Memorial Day weekend, flag-waving patriotism gets its due as the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic honors veterans, especially those who served in World War II, with its annual free Salute! concert at 7 p.m. Friday on grounds of the Bartholomew County Memorial For Veterans, Second and Jackson streets in downtown Columbus. Columbus native Greg Rolph comes home from Florida as the featured vocalist with a résumé boasting a globetrotting career in music. Information: 812-376-2638 or thecip.org.

2) In online interviews, top fingerstyle guitarist Richard Smith seems as humble as he is gifted with his music. He returns to Columbus’ Harlequin Theatre inside FairOaks Mall, 2380 25th St., at 7 p.m. May 28, for a concert. He gives people their money’s worth. He played two-and-a-half hours during his first visit to town. Tickets are $15 in advance at the mall office and Viewpoint Books and $18 at the door.
