Elmira F. Vermillion Annis, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away May 18, 2015. Born June 13, 1923, in Columbus, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Oliver O. and Sophrona (Callam) Jones.

A 1941 graduate of Columbus High School, Elmira worked as a foundry foreman at Chrysler Motor Company for over 30 years, then worked with the Central Indiana Counsel on Aging.

She married Edgar Vermillion, who preceded her in death in 1984. She then married Robert Annis, who also preceded her in death in 1999.

She was an avid fisherman with husband Edgar and enjoyed travel with husband Robert. She also enjoyed reading and yard work. She was presented with the Elmira Annis Rise Scholarship from the Eli Lilly Family School of Philanthropy on her 90th birthday, presented by fellow trustees of the R.B. Annis Educational Foundation. She was a supporter of Girl Scouts of America and Brown County Art Society and was a board member of R.B. Annis Foundation.

She is survived by daughter–in-law, Becky Vermillion; sisters, Mae Henderson and Jane Patterson; a sister-in-law, Billie Jo Hatfield; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren’ and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Oliver Hugh Vermillion; and a granddaughter, Stacy Vermillion.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. S.R. 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
