Area students named to dean’s list at colleges

The following Columbus students were named to the dean’s List at Belmont University for the spring 2015 semester: Kaden Eaton, Anna Miller, Emma Smith and Hannah Wittman.

The following Columbus student were named to the dean’s list for Hope College: Jon Austin Huffer.

Columbus resident receives President’s education award

Gavin VanPelt of Columbus received the President’s Award for Educational Achievement at Howe Military Academy for maintaining a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.74.

VanPelt, a 10th-grader at the military academy, is the son of Brad and Sarah VanPelt, Columbus. He has attended Howe since February.

University of Evansville announces local graduates

The following area residents graduated from the University of Evansville during its 157th commencement May 9 at the Ford Center in Evansville.

Columbus: Kellie Garrison, Bachelor of Science in exercise science; Nicholas Jones, Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering; Molly Mowrer, Bachelor of Science in special education.

Seymour: Christopher Patmore, Bachelor of Science in sports management.

Nashville: Anna Rhoads, Bachelor of Science in theater.

Pence receives law degree from IU Maurer school

John Pence has received his law degree from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

After taking the Indiana bar exam in July, he plans to work for the law firm of Ice Miller LLP.

Local resident graduates with doctorate degreee

Yadan Tang of Columbus, received a Doctor of Philosophy from Lehigh University during spring commence-ment ceremonies in Bethle-hem, Pennsylvania.

More than 1,900 Lehigh students received degrees in the university’s 147th spring commencement.

Pair of Columbus students graduate from Grace College

Two Columbus residents graduated from Grace College on Tuesday at the Orthopedic Capital Center.

They are:

•Nathan Crussel, son of Donald Crussel and Susan Morris, Columbus, received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Crussel graduated from Columbus East High School.

•Scott Schloss, son of Robert and Lisa Schloss, Columbus, graduated with a double major, a Bachelor of Arts degree in photography and a Bachelor of Arts degree in illustration. Schloss also graduated from Columbus East High School.
