Deckard cemetery group holds reunion

Deckard cemetery group conducts reunion

Twenty-two people attended the annual Deckard Reunion Cemetery Association meeting on May 17 at the family cemetery in Brown County, located beyond the T.C. Steele State Historic Site.

Jim Ault was elected to five-year-term as trustee and also elected vice president. Because of the death of Tommy Deckard, who had done extensive work on the cemetery grounds, his daughter was elected to take his place for the remainder of his term. Ollen Henderson was re-elected as president, and Jeannie Deckard was re-elected secretary/treasurer.

Susie Ketchum led the song service. Norma Deckard Hillenburg reminisced about coming to the cemetery in 1927 when her baby sister died. She recalled that they had to come through Mullis’ neighborhood to get up to the cemetery. Mr. Brennan, whose home is just outside the cemetery, reminisced about coming to the cemetery for the first time in 1962. There was a discussion of the Indians who lived on the grounds that the cemetery occupied.
