• Betty Fields for the letter to the editor with excellent rebuttal of my letter commenting about nobody contacting Vectren with low gas billings; I was wrong and she is right, from Ken VanLiew.

• the man who paid for sodas for my son and I at Circle K on Sunday evening.

• Shawna at Kroger pharmacy for working hard to get Amelia’s scripts filled.

• Bob Webb for being a great neighbor and allowing us to use a driveway as our parking lot for the past 10 days, from your Washington Street neighbors.

• Chevrolet of Columbus for the awesome customer service and for giving Columbus residents no reason to go out of town to purchase a Chevrolet, from Kelley.

• National Public Radio for providing news coverage with a broad spectrum of perspective and diverse points of view, from Charles Mitch.

• Justin Hohn for explaining why a car dealership doesn’t need a tax abatement for an easy access, high-visibility site located next to an interstate.

• First Christian Church for generations night, from a church member.

• Justin Hohn for his well-written letter and thorough understanding of the actual law on tax abatements.

• those who celebrated my retirement: family, friends, wonderful staff past and present and my incredible students, from Beth Newman.

• for all who gave of their time and talents for Relay for Life and to Skyler Fleetwood for the beautiful and inspiring song during the luminary ceremony.

• Saturday’s St. Francis Women’s Health Fair as it was very informative, interesting and enjoyable, from Barb Farlow.

• people who have the time and energy to worry about grass clippings and if some hint of nature is in the roadway.

• the two future churches that own property on Goeller Boulevard but do not mow their property.

• the owner of the two dogs on a very short chain tied out across from an elementary school, as they look miserable.

• rewarding someone who caused a car accident.

• driver of the truck who disregarded the one-way sign on Second Street on Saturday afternoon to get to McDonald’s despite numerous cars going the correct direction on the same road.

• the county official who has taken a once proactive department to a reactive one.

• the factory that continues to employ a female who only comes to work to pick up married men.

• the two drive-in restaurants that do not have no-smoking signs and to the customers who smoke right next to people who are trying to enjoy their meal.

• climate change deniers.

• letter writers who cite fake news shown as data.

• The Republic for removing the daily TV guide as we would like it have it back, please.

• the person who has removed the two Pyrex dishes on Lowell Road that we use to feed the cat, which was dropped off.

• the terrible road conditions on county roads and State Road 11.

• people who think they know more than everyone else just because they attended the same university as Ted Kaczynski.

• the fire department having the fish fry whose fish was too dry and rubbery to eat.

• whoever is responsible for putting the fountains in behind the Centra Credit Union, forcing baby geese to leave the area with no protection.

• the cruel people who put in the fountains to chase the baby geese away.

• people who don’t keep up their lawns.

• the officer Saturday evening who used his red lights on Central Avenue just to make a U-turn.

• the officer in the SUV at 6 p.m. Friday who used his red lights on State Street just to cross the street to get into the correct lane then immediately turned his red lights off and merged into the traffic flow.

• the young man in the black car Saturday who was giving the elderly lady a hard time while she was trying to park her car at church.

• those who think personal choice rights are only OK for LGBT, black pride or other groups, but to have straight pride or white pride is not OK.

• any type of segregating identification leading to very bad circumstances.

• the medical facility that is requiring all working staff to go to a mandatory meeting to vote on a model of patient care when this should be voluntary.
