Around Town – June 3

Orchids to …

• the kind person who paid for my breakfast at Bob Evans on Memorial Day, from Don, a Vietnam veteran.

• Amy Keller for always inspiring me, being a positive role model and friend — there are too many memories to share about DARE, Red Ribbon Week, The Family Center, etc., from Stephanie Robertson Bowman.

• the county official who is listening to our concerns and doing something about them.

• people who report animal abuse or neglect to Animal Care Services or the Bartholomew County Humane Society, so these animals can be helped.

• Amy Keller for her many years of dedication to Flat Rock-Hawcreek Schools.

• the staff, resource officer and even some students at East High School who have been out directing traffic on Marr Road every day rain or shine since construction blocked two school entrances and forced such daily traffic crunches after school, from a grateful driver.

• Amy Keller, a wonderful, loving person who has given so much to a community she loves, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done for the children in our schools, from Diana and Allan.

• City officials for letting Pride Alliance Columbus participate in the downtown banner program just like any other organization, from Brian Walters.

• Amy Keller for your dedication and service to the children of our community, you were a joy to work with and will be missed by so many.

• Tim and Kelly Waggoner on your addition to the family.

• Deborah Johnson-Bey McDuffey for being the first on an accident scene Monday and staying with the injured until the EMTs arrived.

• Amy Keller for all you have done for the kids at Hope Elementary.

Onions to …

• the city for not recognizing a happy-to-be-heterosexual month with pole flags and events.

• people who need more starch in their shorts.

• anyone who thinks tax abatements work with 102 empty business buildings for lease in Columbus.

• people who complain about how other people’s grass is mowed — who cares if it’s in the street, at least it is mowed so you need to find real issues to gripe about.

• county department head and upper management that is out of tune with the true goal of being proactive.

• people who don’t realize the geese were gone before the fountains were installed — but not to worry as they do like water and are likely to return.

• the disrespectful person trying to draw a comparison to Ted Kaczynski and where he went to college.

• law enforcement agency that no longer has a proactive response to crime.

• the person who doesn’t realize just because someone is a great firefighter doesn’t mean they are a great cook.

• that sheriff’s deputy who didn’t stop or even slow down for the pedestrian in the crosswalk on Washington Street.

• the mean person who shot a rocket at my house Sunday night, which blew a hole in my trim work.

• the tire store owner who seems to be angry at the world.

• people who don’t understand that grass in the street clogs up the sewers.

• people who think deleting a post from social media covers their tracks or makes it OK.

• the law enforcement agency that has a reactive attitude toward crime.

• The Republic for bringing back the Ask Amy and Dr. K. columns with print that is so small you need a magnifying glass to read them.

• the driver of the green dump truck loaded with gravel that ran the red light at 25th Street and National Road, almost hitting my van Monday afternoon.

• people who flush the toilet while on the phone, thinking the person on the other end can’t hear it.
