Kathryn M. Hoy, 89, of Hope, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Before retirement she was employed by Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corperation as the secretary/treasurer for the superintendent. She also worked for Civil Service during the World War II, was the first female walking carrier for Bartholomew County Postal Service and worked at Miller’s Merry Manor as a payroll clerk.

Kathryn graduated from Brownstown High School in 1944 and was valedictorian of her class.

She was a member of Waynesburg Christian Church, was Past Worthy Matron of Hope Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of Hope Rainbow for Girls Advisory Board. She was also a Girl Scout leader, served on the Hope Town Board and was a member of Kappa Kappa Sigma, Royal Neighbors of America and Homemaker’s Extension Club.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and attending Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of Indiana functions with her husband, Clyde.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with the Rev. Betty Ann Garrett officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to service time Friday. There will be an Eastern Star memorial service at 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions may be made to Hauser Dollars for Scholars through the funeral home.

Born February 22, 1926, in Brownstown, Kathryn was the daughter of Luther and Ida Davis McCory. She married Clyde D. Hoy August 30, 1947, and he survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Carol (Mark) Romine of Hope; son, Sam Hoy of Hope; grandchildren, Sara Romine Tuell of Indianapolis and Amy (Jared) Rutan of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Caroline and Lillian Tuell of Indianapolis.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, John Romine; and siblings, Gilbert McCory, Hazel McKinney and Glen McCory.
