Brian’s picks

1) JCB NeighborFEST will offer a bit of brass and sass as the Indianapolis-based Soulshine Band presents classic rock from some of the better-known horn groups — from Earth Wind & Fire to Blood, Sweat & Tears — from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today in the 300 block of Washington Street in front of The Commons in Columbus. The free event, organized by the Columbus Area Arts Council, kicks off the summertime monthly street concerts complete with food and drinks, including a roped-off area for alcohol. Information: 812-376-2539 or artsincolumbus.org.

2) All the world’s a stage — for confidence, among other things. That’s part of the idea behind the Acting and Creative Training (ACT) workshop for youth beginning Monday at Columbus’ YES Cinema, Fourth and Jackson streets. It will allow youngsters in grades 4 to 8 to get an hour’s weekly guidance fromĀ  professional actress and performance coach Jill Tasker through July 27.
