Oliver Sporleder

Oliver Evans Sporleder Jr., 74, of North Vernon, Indiana, went to meet his Lord at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg, Indiana.

He was born on June 9, 1941, in Jennings County, Indiana, the son of Oliver E. Sporleder Sr. and Margaret Louise Smith. He married Alice Vanosdol on August 20, 1961, at Zenas Baptist Church in Zenas, Indiana. She survives.

Mr. Sporleder worked in assembly and inspection for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, for 40 years, retiring in 2001. He was a 1959 graduate of North Vernon High School and a member of Zenas Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, and was a member of Diesel Workers Union in Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, cutting firewood and working crossword puzzles. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Sporleder of North Vernon; one son, Nathan Sporleder of North Vernon; three daughters, Jennifer Morris of North Vernon, Tamarie (Edward) Wooddell and Kimberly (Darrin) Reeves, both of Butlerville; one brother, Michael Sporleder of Columbus; three sisters, Joyce (Stanley) Ashman of Clermont, Florida, Judy (Gilbert) Maupin of Commiskey and Anita (Don) Verner of Sheridan, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, Jacob (Jenna) Wooddell of Jamestown, Rachaellen (Jeffrey) Murr of Muncie, Evan (Megan) Sporleder of Greensburg, Hunter Sporleder and Hannah Morris, both of North Vernon, Kirsten (Jesse) Troutman of Westport, Kadi (Michael) Crooke of New Palestine and Darin (Brandon) Balser of Butlerville; and seven great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Keaton, Kelton and Keira Troutman, all of Westport, Oliver Sporleder of Greensburg, Emmarie Murr of Muncie and BraeLynn Balser of Butlerville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a  son-in-law, Ben Morris.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Mitch Harrell officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, June 14, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Zenas Baptist Church Building Fund.
