Transportation department to close I-65 lanes

The northbound right lane of Interstate 65 between State Road 252 and State Road 44 will be closed during overnight hours Thursday and Friday — weather permitting — beginning at 9 each night.

I-65 motorists traveling northbound will cross the median to a single counterflow lane on the southbound side (west side) of the highway, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced.

Thursday night, bridge crews hope to sandblast bridge decks at Sugar Creek and Amity Ditch in preparation for installation of bridge deck overlays.

Friday night, workers have been scheduled to pour a concrete bridge rail at Big Blue River.

This week’s operations include full-depth concrete patching in the northbound I-65 right lane between mile markers 84.75 and 85.5, and mile markers 81.0 and 81.75. Crews are working five 10-hour days, plus eight hours Saturdays. After patching operations have been completed, I-65 will be milled and resurfaced between Edinburgh and Franklin.

Rieth-Riley is the state’s prime contractor for this $21 million INDOT Seymour District repair and resurfacing project. Beaty Construction is the subcontractor responsible for bridge work.
