Robert E. “Soupbone” Spurling, 60, of West Georgetown Road, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Spurling was a journeyman lineman for Bartholomew County REMC for 27 years. He was a member of IBEW 1393 in Indianapolis and was affiliated with Touchstone Energy Co-op and Hoosier Energy.

A motorcycle enthusiast and motorcycle builder, Robert was a member of ABATE and was one of the founding members of the Bean Blossom Boogie.

An avid dog lover, he enjoyed riding Harleys, fishing, and his home.

Born in Columbus July 28, 1955, Mr. Spurling was the son of Omer and Dorothy Glenn Spurling.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Meredith of Columbus; his fiancée, Jeannette Gentry of Columbus; a daughter, Kristy (Pat) Smith of Columbus; grandchildren, Alisha Pluris and Karmyn and Bradyn Smith; a brother, Gary (Louise) Spurling of Kentucky; a stepbrother, Glenn (Letta) Meredith of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Jody Ragan.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, cremation is planned.

Plans for a memorial service and a motorcycle ride in memory of Robert will be announced in the near future.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Lung Cancer Research.
