Go Guide – August 13

I would never want to rank our architectural landmarks in order of importance, but I tend to place a bit of emphasis on North Christian Church. After all, Eero Saarinen’s church, at its 850 Tipton Lane location, is often the first significant work people see as they roll into Columbus via National Road. Keeping that in mind, I’m all for making North Christian Church the prettiest it can be — and I’ll get a chance to do so from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday during the North Christian Church Landscape Clean-up Day. It’s no secret that I love animals, specifically the mammals that live with us, and even more specifically, cats and dogs. I know from personal experience that cats are some of the more opaque critters in the world, and know that sometimes my cats’ “words” get lost in translation. That’s why I’ll be heading to “The Truth about Dogs and Cats: Social Communication Signals,” 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. During the presentation at the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Melissa Shyan-Norwalt will talk about interpreting dog and cat facial expressions and body language based on scientific research.
