Dorothy J. Mears, age 88, of Columbus, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 6:53 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Willow Crossing Health & Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Mears was born on April 10, 1927, in McLean County, Kentucky, the daughter of Willis and Margaret Johnson. She married Clyde E. Mears on June 25, 1949, in Evansville.

Mrs. Mears was a homemaker and volunteer at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, the Good Samaritan Home, United Caring Shelter and at her church. She was past president of the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Evansville and attended Westside Community Church in Columbus.

Survivors include a brother, Phillip Johnson of Elkton, Kentucky; a daughter, Lisa (Ed) Reuter of Columbus; and a son, John (Maureen) Mears of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Melissa (Ted) Baker of Coal Valley, Illinois, Michelle Reuter of Indianapolis, Jeffrey (Chrissy Dallas) Mears and Carly Mears of Cincinnati; and four great-grandchildren, Dillon, Aaron, and Gabrielle Baker of Coal Valley and Bailey Mears of Cincinnati.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Mears; a son, George A. Mears; and her siblings, Eloise Blalock, Eva Hooper, Betty Jean Smith, Merle Adcock, Rollie Johnson, Earl Daniel Johnson, Wilma Hardesty, and Barbara Ann Black.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Dennis Aud officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
