Cummins Inc. demolished a Civil War-era, two-story wooden building around which the engine maker’s former flagship Columbus Engine Plant was built. The deteriorating structure once housed the office of company co-founder Clessie Cummins.

1990

Heritage Woods Phase II on McClure Road earned a Merit Award for Program Innovation from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment. The low- income housing development was the product of a unique partnership between four local banks, a nonprofit corporation and Columbus Housing Authority.

1955

The 434th Troop Carrier Wing at Bakalar Air Force Base achieved a new flying safety record of 100,000 hours in the air without an accident, the best in the Air Force.
