City man arrested after call about erratic driving

A local man was arrested after police received complaints he was driving errat- ically near 17th Street and Cottage Avenue.

Zachary B. Lewis, 29, 3390 Marilyn St., was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of a legend drug-injection device, said Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman.

When Columbus police officers stopped Lewis’ car, they noted his speech was slurred and he had difficulty keeping his eyes open, Harris said.

Lewis failed several roadside sobriety tests, Harris said. While searching Lewis before taking him for a certified chemical test, officers located a syringe in Lewis’ clothing, Harris said.

Lewis told officers he had used heroin earlier in the day, police reports stated. Lewis submitted to a blood draw at Columbus Regional Hospital and was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail.

He is being held at the jail in lieu of $15,000 bond, jail officials said.
