Joyce A. Helmbrecht, 84, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:46 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born in New Albany, Indiana, July 15, 1931, Mrs. Helmbrecht was the daughter of Ray and Margaret Terry Bradbury. She married Max A. Helmbrecht October 25, 1953. He preceded her in death February 17, 2014.

Mrs. Helmbrecht was the secretary at Central Junior High School in Columbus retiring after many years of service.

She attended Central Christian Church in Seymour and most recently attended First Christian Church in Columbus. She was a member of the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority and she enjoyed making jewelry, refinishing antiques, and collecting teapots.

Survivors include her children, Hank (Kathy) Helmbrecht of Carmel and Pam (Randy) Shelton of Columbus; grandchildren, Susan (Paul) Beck of Carmel, Mike (Rachelle) Phillips of Yorktown, Josh (Jennifer) Shelton of Franklin, Kyle Shelton of Columbus, and Ashley (Dr. Joshua) Maze of Round Rock, Texas; great-grandchildren, Magnus and Fenna Beck, Kaitlyne, Taylor, and Grant Phillips, Dylan Shelton, Sarah Chambers, Celia Maze and Dominik Shelton; a brother, Ray (Sandy) Bradbury of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Mary Butler of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Helmbrecht was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 60 years, Max Helmbrecht.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Robin Everhart officiating.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from noon until service time Saturday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
