Lawrenceburg to host big night of racing

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its only appearance of the season tonight at the Lawrenceburg Speedway.

The event will pay $10,000. Also on the race card will be UMP Modifieds, paying $1,000 to win.

Don O’Neal of Martinsville, the reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series national champion, is the defending winner of the “Whiskey City 50.”

O’Neal is the only repeat winner at Lawrenceburg since the series starting racing there in 2008. Other winners include Darren Miller, Brian Birkhofer, Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens and Steve Francis.

Pit gates will open at 3 p.m., with front gates opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to start at 6 p.m., with opening ceremonies slated for 7 p.m.

Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia, is the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader heading into the Lawrenceburg event. Davenport has won 17 feature events this season and 10 of those have come with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Davenport has won more than $358,000 in first-place prize money this year.

Barnett, Godsey win for Stewart

Steve Barnett of Franklin and Joe Godsey of Edinburgh won feature events Aug. 15 at Brownstown Speedway.

Barnett came from the 10th starting spot to win the Indiana Pro Late Model Series event for his first win of the season. Godsey won a thrilling modifieds feature as the top three crossed the line. It was Godsey’s 15th win this season. The Tony Stewart Racing late-model and modified cars are sponsored by J.D. Byrider, Bass Pro Shops and Mobil 1.

North Vernon racer gets first career win

Trent Low of North Vernon won the first feature of his career Aug. 8 at Daugherty’s Speedway in Boswell. The 32-year-old won the Indiana Pro Late Model feature event. Low is in his second year of racing and is sponsored by Fresh Printz, Smith’s Implements, XT Catalyst, Commiskey Corner Store, T&S Farms, Maxx Out and MasterSbilt Race Cars.

Stockon still second in USAC points

Chase Stockon of Elizabethtown is still second in the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car points standings after a fourth-place finish at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, on Aug. 9. Robert Ballou, who won the race, is the current series points leader heading into the next events at Kokomo Speedway on Aug. 25 through 29.

Edinburgh youngster continues best season

Edinburgh teenager Austin Burton continued the best season of his career this past weekend. Burton won the Hornets features at both Bloomington Speedway on Aug. 14 and Brownstown Speedway on Aug. 15, bringing his season total to 11 wins.
