2005

A campaign to rally public support for a new sewer system reached Columbus residents via their monthly bills and a detailed website. Water and sewer bills were projected to increase by 30 percent by the end of the year and 100 percent by 2011.

1990

The Columbus City Council, citing the importance of orderly growth and development, approved the annexation of nearly 1,600 acres into city limits. Under a series of ordinances adopted on final reading, about 1,700 people would become city residents by Jan. 1.

1965

Aircraft from the 434th Reserve Troop Carrier wing at Bakalar Air Force Base began transporting troops and materiel for government support in controlling riots in Los Angeles.
