Site preparation began on the long-awaited Lowe’s Regional Distribution Center in North Vernon, a 516,000-square-foot, $20- to $25-million warehouse facility that would employ more than 900 people.

A community effort to restore the one-room Simmons Schoolhouse in Hope was a runner-up in the historic preservation category of Midwest Living magazine’s Hometown Pride contest.

1965

For the second time in two weeks, a Pennsylvania Railroad freight train derailed north of Flat Rock when six cars, including the caboose, four empty box cars and a gondola car loaded with coal, slipped off the track at 5 miles an hour.
