MALE

JoJo Woolwine, Columbus East senior tennis player

Woolwine went 5-0 at No. 2 singles last week. On Saturday, he swept through three matches to win the No. 2 singles bracket in the Shelbyville Invitational.

His performance last week:

“I feel like I played really well. After my one loss two weeks ago, I had to figure out what I was doing wrong and improve on that.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I just make sure to hit a lot of balls, get my footwork working especially well and work on hitting balls deep.”

FEMALE

Holly Anderson, Columbus North junior golfer

Anderson carded a 76 at Smock to finish second individually and led the Bull Dogs to the team title in Saturday’s Franklin Central Invitational. Earlier in the week, she finished second with a 39 in a dual-match win against Whiteland at Harrison Lake and tied for the team-best with a 41 in a tri-match at Hickory Stick.

Her performance last week:

“I thought I played pretty well. Seventy-six is a good score for me. I know I left a lot of shots out there with silly mistakes, but I’m pretty proud of what I shot.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“Usually the day before, I go out and hit balls with my dad (Chris), and I just chip and putt, and I usually call or text my sister (Sydney, a golfer at Ball State).”

“Keep moving and take one shot at a time. Everybody has bad rounds, so just make sure to stay confident.”

“I want to try to get my average lower, and I want to try to play D-I golf.”

“Probably the Bahamas, because everybody says how pretty it is, and a lot of my friends have been there.”
