Columbus East and Columbus North high schools were two of the 160 schools in the state named “Best Buys” by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Based on ISTEP scores, graduation rates, attendance rates, SAT composite scores and SAT participation rates for 12th-graders, the schools were recognized for excelling academically while providing good value for tax dollars.

1990

Bartholomew County Sheriff Rick Hill ordered stools bolted to the floor in each cell of the new jail removed because inmates found a way to loosen them to use as weapons and to vandalize the building.

Joseph True, an architect with SIECO Inc. architectural firm, estimated the cost of remodeling the courthouse to house only county offices to be between $300,000 to $325,000.
