Community Dinner honors award winners

Staff Reports

More than 100 people attended the Community Dinner, formerly known as the Rural Urban dinner, on Sept. 17 at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building.

The Rural Service award, which has been presented since 1954, went to John and Barb Hackman for their many years of service to the community.

“They have always been willing to lend a helping hand to those who need it,” said Bill Lentz, of Bartholomew County Farm Bureau.

The Energy Conservation Award was presented to Pia O’Connor. She was recognized for her energy efficiency initiatives at her home.

Days and streets for next year’s county fair were auctioned off, raising more than $9,100 for the fair. The money will be used for fairground improvements.

Hope native Brittney Young was the featured speaker. The 2013 Bartholomew County 4-H Fair queen just completed her year of service as the 2014-15 Indiana FFA state president.

The Community Dinner is a program of Bartholomew County Farm Bureau and the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair Board, with volunteers from other area organizations.
