Home invaders leave man, 68, with lacerations

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the public’s help in identifying two masked men wielding knives who invaded a 68-year-old local man’s home.

The victim, who drove to Circle K at State Road 7 and U.S. 31 to report the incident at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, suffered multiple injuries in the attack, deputies said.

When deputies arrived, they saw he had serious lacerations to his right hand and left forearm and was bleeding from his head and nose, deputies said. The victim was treated at the scene and then taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, deputies said. He was later taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment, deputies said.

The victim told Deputy Nate Nichols that he was at his home in the 8500 block of East State Road 7 when the two men attacked him. Deputies were able to gather some evidence at the scene, but are now asking for the public’s help in reporting any suspicious vehicles or people in that area Thursday night.

Sheriff Matt Myers said the incident was not a typical burglary, as burglars usually want to get in and get out without any personal contact.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Will Kinman at 812-565-5926 or email [email protected].
