Police: Woman flees, crashes

A Crothersville woman was arrested after being accused of stealing a purse from a Washington Street business and crashed into a truck that blocked her escape.

Kimberly J. Fields, 50, was arrested on charges of theft and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at about 8:10 p.m. Thursday near 14th and Lawton streets, Columbus Police spokesman Matt Harris said.

When officers arrived there, they saw several people in the street and a truck that had blocked a small silver car, Harris said.

The driver of the truck told officers that the woman driving the silver car, later identified as Fields, stole a purse from a business in the 3100 block of Washington Street, Harris said. He told officers when she attempted to leave, she realized she was blocked in and crashed into his truck after learning the police had been called, Harris said.

Fields failed several field sobriety tests, and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood test. She was later transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was released after posting $7,500 bond.
