David W. Otte, 71, of Jewell Street, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015, at his home.

Born June 3, 1944, in Jackson County, Indiana, Mr. Otte was the son of Clarence H. and Flora M. Hamblen Otte. He married Helen Smith July 4, 1970.

Earlier in life, Mr. Otte worked at Pyramid Paper. Later, he was a factory employee at Ventra for many years and also had worked for Columbus Security.

He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan and enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets in Scottsburg. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his dog, Spike.

Mr. Otte is survived by Helen, his wife of 45 years; children, Kevin Otte of Seymour, Aaron Otte of Columbus, and Darla (Eric) Anderson of Columbus; grandchildren, Hunter Otte and Haley Fields; a brother, Danny (Janet) Otte of Seymour; sisters, Delilah (Charles) Stanton of Seymour and Diana Otte of Freetown; several nieces and nephews; and his former neighbor and best friend, Harold “Bud” Newland of Columbus.

Mr. Otte was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Douglas Smith officiating.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
