Marcus F. Nolting, 94, of Elizabethtown, died at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient facility.

Born in Bartholomew County Nov. 20, 1920, Marcus was the son of Marcus and Elsie Schumacher Nolting. He married Bertha T. Meier Aug. 21, 1949. She preceded him in death Dec. 4, 1991. He later married Nancy Ann Taylor who preceded him in death in 2012.

Marcus was a 1939 graduate of Columbus High School. He worked on the family farm until serving in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Clifty, where he was baptized in December 1920, and Bethel Lutheran Church in Austin. He was a member of American Legion Post 24 of Columbus and after moving to Scottsburg he was a member of the North Vernon VFW where he was active on the Color Guard.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church-Clifty Chapel, with Pastor Douglas Bauman officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery at the church. Calling will be at the church two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or Hospice.

Marcus is survived by his children, Stanley (Cathy) Nolting of Greensburg, Steven (Sabrina) Nolting of Elizabethtown, and Neil Nolting of Elizabethtown; a stepson, Lincoln (Dawn) Taylor of Lexington, Indiana; a sister, Carol (Kenny) Kiel of Columbus; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; sisters, Virginia Burbrink, Elizabeth Cline, and Rosalyn Lanham; brothers, Max and Morris Nolting; and a stepdaughter, Nancy Yvonne Taylor.
