Center Street home damaged in fire

A home on Center Street in east Columbus had extensive fire damage to a kitchen, and smoke and water damage throughout the structure.

The fire was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Friday at 442 Center St., Columbus firefighters said.

No one was home when firefighters arrived.

There were three dogs inside the house, and one left out the door when firefighters opened it.

The other two dogs were treated at the scene by firefighters and one was sent to a vet in Franklin, but was believed to be recovering, firefighters said.

Steve Eubanks, who owns the home, said he and his wife Wendy have lived in the home for 19 years.

The American Red Cross assisted the family at the scene.
