Alvera J. McNicholas-Taylor, 83, of Taylorsville, died Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Before retirement she had been employed at Bulldog Bowling Lanes. She was a member of the VFW, Eagles Auxillary and the American Legion Auxillary.
She loved to read, garden, crochet, and do crossword puzzles.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Don Buck officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Born November 17, 1931, in Bartholomew County, Alvera was the daughter of Paul Oliphant and Cordelia HendersonTaylor. She marrried Maurice “Nick” McNicholas July 17, 1948, and he preceded her in death July 12, 2002. She married Kenneth Taylor February 12, 2006, and he preceded her in death in October of 2006.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Hedrick Dobbs of Columbus; sons, Harold (Tina) McNicholas of Hope and Robert (Leigh) McNicholas of Waterloo, Illinois; stepchildren, Carol (Roger) Meadows of Kentucky and Kenny (Noel) Taylor of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Terri Carman McNicholas of Columbus.
Alvera was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Mike McNicholas; a brother, Paul Oliphant Jr. and her stepfather, Harold Taylor.
