City and Columbus Regional Hospital officials reached a multi-year agreement that would pay CRH $706,000 in 2006 for ambulance service. Medic I, the medical division of Columbus Fire Department that provided the service for years, using CRH only as a backup service, would be dissolved.

Unemployment rates in Bartholomew County jumped from 5 to 5.9 percent in August according to the Indiana Department of Employment and Training Services.

Miss Elsie I. Sweeney, a member of the pioneer family that encouraged cultural development in Columbus, and Orphie R. Bridges, vice president and general manager of Arvin Industries’ International Division, were awarded the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Community Service Awards.
