8 arrested at underage drinking party

Five juveniles and three adults were arrested at an underage drinking party in the 200 block of Smith Street.

Columbus police saw several people standing outside a Smith Street house at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman. As police approached, those outside quickly entered the house.

When officers approached the open front door, they saw an unresponsive girl on the living room floor, Harris said. Officers went in to check on the 16-year-old and requested medical help when they couldn’t wake her up. The girl was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where she was treated for alcohol poisoning, Harris said.

Five juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were detained for illegal consumption of alcohol and transported to the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center, Harris said.

In addition, three adults also were arrested.

Joshua E. Smith, 25, 371 Center St., was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said. He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail without bond, jail officials said.

William D. Hickey, 19, 3108 26th St., was arrested on preliminary charges of illegal consumption, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said. He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $8,500 bond, jail officials said.

Jacob M. Lewis, 19, 1713 Chandler Lane, was arrested on a preliminary charge of illegal consumption, Harris said. He was released from the Bartholomew County Jail on $2,500 bond.
