kidscommons museum events set for Ethnic Expo

Staff Reports

Special events tied to Ethnic Expo are planned at kidscommons children’s museum in Columbus.

Three opportunities are available today to hear a reading of the book “Little Red Hen” in Urdu and English in celebration of the Ethnic Expo host country Pakistan, said Diane Robbins, kidscommons community relations and marketing manager.

Ozma Khan, a member of the city’s Pakistani community, will wear a traditional Pakistani outfit as she reads the book in both languages. The book will be read at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. today. Urdu is the national language of Pakistan.

Museum staff will provide free children’s activities at Ethnic Expo from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday from a tent at the corner of First and Washington streets. Children will be able to create a traditional Pakistan scarf using the tie-and-die method with beans and string. Wood blocks from Pakistan also will be available to create a unique picture using block printing.
