Westport
Mary A. Bishop, 91, of Westport, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Columbus. She was born April 1, 1924, in Decatur County, the daughter of Mark and Harriett R. “Hattie” (McQueen) Mires.
A lifelong resident of Decatur County, Mary had worked at Vine’s Egg Company, BCA, and Hospitality Nursing Center. She enjoyed nature and was a member of Rodney Wesleyan Church.
She married Robert O. Bishop September 25, 1939, in Jennings County. He preceded her in death May 11, 1994.
Survivors include her daughters, Rita Apsley of North Vernon and Donna Bell of Westport; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Roy, William, Norman, and Carl Mires; her sisters, Jessie Mires, Inez Weisner, Ruth Bishop, and Marie Stuart; a great-grandson, Derek McNicholas; and a great-great-granddaughter, Ahmaria Ruiz Ramirez.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport, with the Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Rodney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
