Eugene W. Parker, 91, of Keith Drive, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Eugene was born June 25, 1924, in Kentucky, the son of William and Nettie Shirley Parker. He married F. Opal Parker January 3, 1953.

Eugene served in the U.S. army during WW II in the 291st Battalion, Field and Artillery Division. After serving in the military, he worked on the pipelines in the southern states. He then moved to Louisville and worked in a foundry until he relocated to Columbus in 1963. Eugene worked construction until his retirement in 2010.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Pastor John Marquis officiating. Calling will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.

Survivors include his son, Terry (Cheryl) Parker of Columbus; grandchildren, Nick, Derek and Chelsey Parker; and great-grandson, Owen Parker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Parker and Nettie Shirley Staples; his wife, F. Opal Parker; daughter, Peggy Parker; brothers, Willie and Dave Parker; several half-brothers and sisters; a nephew, Wayne Parker; and great-nephew, Andrew Parker.
