James C. Lobdell, 72, of Hope, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at his home.

He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 38 years of service and was the owner of Jim’s Garage and Body Shop. He was a member of Hartsville Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and trustee.

He was in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of NRA and the Diesel Worker’s Union.

He had a love for restoring classic automobiles and owned 1956 and 1957 Chevys. He also loved fishing and gardening.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Mark Jacobs officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery and military graveside rites will be performed by The Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Born May 17, 1943, in Belpre, Kansas, Jim was the son of Harvey A. and Mary E. Baylis Lobdell. He graduated from Hauser High School in 1962. He married Mary Nell Elrod August 10, 1963, in Livingston, Tennessee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Hope; daughters, Patti A. (Roger) VanGorden and Kathy A. (Jeff) Cornn, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Alisha (Jimmy) Villarreal of Hope, Kristopher Lobdell (Jenn Morris) of Columbus, Kimberly Lobdell (Eddie Davis) of Elizabethtown, Nickolas Lobdell, Zachary Cornn, Alexander Cornn and Erin Cornn, all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Ryanne, Camryn, Tryce, Kyson Villarreal, Kadin and Kian Lobdell, Brysyn Tungate and Kolins Lobdell; a sister, Mildred (Jerry) Durham of Columbus; and his beloved dogs, Blackie, Cheetah and Bella.

Jim was preceded in death by a son, James A. Lobdell; great-grandson, Edward J. Davis; a brother, Richard Lobdell; a sister, Alice Lobdell; and his parents.
