Richard “Rich” N. Nehrt, 75, of Crothersville, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born Sept. 6, 1940, at his family’s home, the son of Paul Neal Nehrt and Thelma L. (Pharel) Nehrt who are both deceased.

Richard was a 1958 Crothersville High School graduate where he was an all-star point guard for the Crothersville Tigers. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963.

On June 25, 1994, he married Janet L. (Barnes) Nehrt who survives in Crothersville.

Richard was retired, the previous owner and operator of Columbus Industrial Services Company and served as the Jackson County Recorder from 2004 to 2008. He was a member of Turning Point Church in Scottsburg. He enjoyed gardening, sports, basketball, football, loved to read and was extremely passionate about studying his Bible and the word of God deeply and in depth. Richard was quick witted and had a terrific sense of humor.

Richard is survived by his wife; four sons, Timothy Nolan (Robin) Nehrt and Andrew Neal (Cheryl) Nehrt, both of Crothersville, Stephen (Robin) McClain of Salem and Christopher McClain of Scott County; 11 grandchildren, Levi (Jennifer) Nehrt of Freetown, Erin (Jeff) Bradford of Dover, Delaware, Tiffany (David) Orril of Paris Crossing, Shawn Hensley of Scottsburg, Rebecca Hensley and Chandler Renee Nehrt both of Crothersville, Remington McClain, Hunter McClain and Renee McClain, all of Salem, Kristen Melloncamp and Kenzi McClain both of Scott County; seven great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Aliyah and William Moses Bradford, Ella Jo and Nolan Lee Nehrt, Samantha Jo Orril and Blayden Hensley; two brothers and two sisters, Robert (Ileen) Nehrt of Brownstown, Shirley (Frank) Lehman of Crothersville, Roger (Janet G.) Nehrt, Crothersville and Marcia (Greg) Deskins of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leo Nehrt; and a great-grandson, Michael Jeffrey Bradford.

Danny Jackson will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 2 until 6 p.m. and Monday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
