Madesta Ruth Thomas Ray, 97, formerly of Hope, Indiana, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015, at Silver Oaks Health Center in Columbus, Indiana.

Mrs. Ray had lived in Seymour, Indiana, with a daughter for seven years before moving to Columbus. She was a homemaker most of her life.

Born November 10, 1918, in Anderson, Indiana, Madesta was the daughter of Walter H. and Frances H. Beatty Thomas. She married Charles P. Ray April 22, 1940, and he preceded her in death March 12, 1998.

Survivors include children, Lynn Hedden of Seymour, Indiana, Virginia (David) Palmer of Indianapolis, Indiana, Anita (Tom) Beeker of Hope, Indiana, Charles (Kim) Ray of Hartsville, Indiana,  Roxanne (David) Lortz of Flat Rock, Indiana, and Nancy (Jay) Shoaf, also of Hope, Indiana; 19 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

Madesta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Robert A. and Richard P. Ray; a grandson, Daniel T. Beeker; and a stepgrandson, Dave Palmer.

Arrangements were made through Norman Funeral Home in Hope, Indiana.

Cremation is planned and a private ceremony will be held by the family at a later date.
