Bowl For Blake raises $16,000

The totals have rolled in for the third annual Bowl For Blake fundraiser at the Columbus Bowling Center.

The event generated $16,000 for college scholarships to be given to local high school seniors through the Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, according to Brent Hanger of Columbus, one of the organizers. The event and the scholarships were inspired by 25-year-old Blake Hanger, Brent Hanger’s son and a Columbus resident, who was studying to be a chiropractor at a St. Louis college when he was seriously injured in a Missouri car crash in October 2013 and died a month later.

A Columbus resident snagged the event’s top prize, a St. Louis Cardinals baseball package that includes attending batting practice and throwing out the first pitch at a game next season. The winning bidder, who asked to remain anonymous, will surprise his sons with the gift on Christmas.
