Jets roll against Mohawks

WALDRON — Hauser overcame nine turnovers in the first two minutes to jump out to a 28-8 lead and went on to post a 52-36 girls basketball win at Waldron in its Mid-Hoosier Conference opener.

“It was sloppy,” Hauser coach Brad Hamilton said. “It just took us awhile to get going.”

The Mohawks (3-2, 0-2) cut the lead to 11 in third quarter. The Jets (3-1, 1-0) built the margin back to 20 before the starters left the game.

“I never felt like we pulled away from them,” Hamilton said. “I didn’t feel like we sustained the intensity.”

Leslie Sims led Hauser with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and six steals. Abbey Ashbrook scored 17 points, and Paige Miller added six rebounds and three assists.

The Jets finished with 25 turnovers, but collected 20 steals as a team.
